What is Geotechnical investigation?
Geotechnical investigation is done by a geotechnical engineer or engineering geologists to get a information about the physical properties of soil and other parts included in it such as rocks. A Geologist analyses site to design earthworks and foundations for proposed structure. These investigations called site investigation. A geotechnical investigation will include surface exploration and subsurface exploration of a site. Sometimes, geophysical methods are used to obtain data about sites. Subsurface exploration usually involves soil sampling and laboratory tests of the soil samples retrieved.
How geotechnical investigation done?
Geotechnical investigation is done by an engineer using his tool for it. It includes thermal resistivity of soil of backfill materials required for underground transmission lines, oil and gas pipelines, radioactive waste disposal and solar thermal storage facility. A sample is taken by the geologist, which will be used for further treatment and process of results for geotechnical investigation.
